Fear of public speaking tips: Permission to fail.
It’s OK if you aren’t too perfect when you get up to speak. Many speakers grow up with this idea in their head that their speech must be perfect. That somehow you have to take what you’ve written and deliver it exactly as it is on paper. That’s a recipe for disaster. One of the easiest fear of public speaking tips to implement is to give yourself permission to fail.
Other speakers get so nervous that when they make a mistake they think themselves into a nervous frenzy. Then, when they do make a minor mistake on stage, they get off track and become frozen in fear.
Now, I’m not against practicing as shown by yesterday’s email, but I am against the idea that there is somehow a “perfect speech performance.”
The truth of the matter is that you are going to make mistakes when speaking but the audience won’t either notice, won’t care, or will easily forgive you. After all, you are the one up there, not them.
If you change your mindset to thinking that it’s OK to fail, you take unnecessary pressure off yourself when speaking.
Public speaking performance is more about a holistic experience for you and the audience. A few bumps here and there throughout won’t detract from an otherwise good speech.
Let yourself fail just a little bit, it will take the pressure off and enable you to perform at your best.
